What are art standards?
Art standards are the specifics requirements that we have to meet while doing art projects. We do not have to meet them all on one project, but will eventually have to cover them all.

Understands and applies media, techniques, and processes related to the visual arts.

Knows how to use the structures (eg., sensory qualities, organizational principles, expressive features) and functions of art.

- H Select media, techniques & processes; analyze what makes them effective or not effective in communicating ideas, and reflect upon the effectiveness of their choices.
- I Intentionally take advantage of the qualities characteristics of art, media, techniques and processes to enhance communication of their experiences & ideas.

Knows how to use the structures (eg., sensory qualities, organizational principles, expressive features) and functions of art.

- F Generalize about the effects of visual structures & functions and reflect upon these in their own work.
- G Employ organizational structures & analyze what makes them effective or not effective in the communication of ideas.
- H Select and use the qualities of structures & functions of art to improve communication of their ideas.

Knows a range of subject matter, symbols, and potential ideas in the visual arts.

- E Integrate visual, spatial & cultural concepts with content to communicate intended meaning in their artwork.
- F Use subjects, themes, & symbols that demonstrate knowledge of that communicate intended meaning in artwork.

Understands the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.

- D Know and compare the characteristics of artworks in various eras & cultures.
- E Describe & place a variety of art objects in historical and cultural contexts.
- F Analyze, describe and demonstrate how factors of time and place (such as climate, resources, ideas & technology) influence visual characteristics that give meaning and value to a work of art.

Reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others.

- D Compare multiple purposes for creating works of art.
- E Analyze contemporary and historic meaning in specific artworks through cultural and aesthetic inquiry.
- F Describe and compare a variety of individual responses to their own artworks and to artworks from various eras and cultures.

Make connections between visual arts and other disciplines.

- C Compare the characteristics of works in two or more art forms that share similar subject matter, historical periods, or cultural context.
- D Describe ways in which the principles and subject matter of other disciplines taught in the school are interrelated with the visual arts.
